A DISC personality test for carers — and why the standard one isn't built for you.

Frontline care work breaks most personality tests on contact. We've rebuilt one for the way you actually work — and turned it into the heart of NurtureArc's new CPD Premium tier.

16 psychologist profiles

Most personality tests aren't written for the way you work.

Standard DISC is built for sales teams, managers, and office-based roles. Its language — "drive", "influence", "steadiness", "compliance" — was developed for people whose primary stressor is a quarterly target or a difficult client. It was never tested against the realities of care work: twelve-hour shifts, emotional absorption, moral distress, system pressures that never let up.

The result, when a carer fills in a generic DISC questionnaire, is a profile that reads true on the surface and false underneath. You'll recognise some of the words. You won't recognise yourself in the interpretation. And that mismatch — the sense that a tool almost-fits — is worse than no tool at all.

So for the Premium tier we rebuilt DISC from the question set up. Same four-quadrant architecture, but every item written against the lived experience of frontline care: shift patterns, vicarious trauma, the cost of saying yes, the pressure of holding boundaries when the system doesn't help you hold them.

Anchor, Advocate, Strategist, Catalyst — what they actually mean for carers.

The Premium DISC-derived assessment produces one of four type profiles, each weighted across six pillars: Mind, Body, Soul, Social, Time, and Finance. The four types aren't about who you are at work — they're about how you carry the work, and where the cost lands.

The Anchor shows up as the steady one — community-led, deeply relational, carrying others without being carried. The Advocate absorbs other people's emotional weather and pays for it physically. The Strategist sees the system and carries the mental load of making it work. The Catalyst moves fast, fixes fast, and drives into the ground without noticing. Most carers will recognise themselves in more than one — and the assessment surfaces the dominant pattern.

What you get back isn't a label. It's a pillar-by-pillar narrative — six short readings, each mapped to your pattern — plus a single 90-day transformation prompt written in plain English. Not a curriculum. One concrete shift to attempt, chosen for where it will land hardest.

It's the first personality tool I've used that didn't feel like it was written about a different kind of worker.

More than the assessment. A working library behind it.

The full Premium DISC assessment is the front door. Behind it, the tier pulls together resources that exist for a reason — they map back to the six pillars and the four-type framework, so everything you open has a clear connection to what the assessment told you about yourself.

  • DISC

    Full DISC-derived assessment

Twenty-four behaviourally-specific questions. A four-type profile with pillar-by-pillar narrative and a 90-day transformation prompt, written for carers — not for sales teams.

  • Hub

    Psychologist profiles

Sixteen practitioner profiles across Western, Eastern, and Afro-centric traditions, mapped to NurtureArc's six pillars. Each profile links their work to specific pillar patterns, not generic self-help.

  • Monthly

    Monthly check-ins

Every thirty days, a structured prompt to reflect on what's shifted and where the work still needs to happen. Private to you. Designed to make repeat use — not one-off curiosity — the norm.

  • CPD

    Pillar-mapped CPD resources

Tools, frameworks, and perspectives added each month, curated for your type pattern and your profession. Built to be loggable as Continuing Professional Development hours against your registration.

Logging the time you already spend on yourself.

Most carers already invest time in their own development. They read, they reflect, they attend training. What they don't always have is a clean record of it — a way to log those hours against the framework their employer or regulator already requires.

The Premium tier doesn't manufacture CPD hours. It makes the hours you spend inside it — completing the assessment, reading the psychologist profiles, working through monthly check-ins — straightforward to record. The resources page on NurtureArc points to the relevant Skills for Care guidance on CPD expectations for the social care workforce, so you can match what you log here against what your role actually requires.

This matters because CPD is one of the few systems where self-directed reflection and study are explicitly recognised. If you're going to spend the time anyway, it should count.
